Voice of a Kenyan.

Dear Mr. President, Mr. Prime Minister, Mr. Vice President, I accord you all honours due to you. I am a Kenyan young man looking keenly into how things have been lately. I must say, however, that I am very disappointed and I feel very helpless. I have so many questions that plague my mind and I have no one to answer them. This year alone has seen the uncovering of scandals that have truly broken our hearts. How could this be happening in your government? Why isn’t there someone who is answerable? Do innocent Kenyans have to die daily because they cannot have a meal? Does a Kenyan generation have to miss days of schooling because their teachers do not have a pay? Look how things are being resolved quickly as regards to the prime minister’s pay. Shouldn’t the teachers’ grievances be addressed with similar urgency? Dear leaders of a great nation, do you have the people’s interests in your hearts? Then show it! In word and more preferably, in deed. The Kenyan is hardworking, determined and spirited. Brilliant and possessing great vision and focus. The Kenyan will stop at nothing in his pursuit of a better future. All the Kenyan asks of you is to be the custodian of the nation and he will not let you down in building it. The Kenyan has entrusted you with so much and to some extent he feels you are letting him down. I ask, “does to have to be this way time and time again?” We the Kenyans are fed up with this sense of poor governance. Once again the leaders have dashed our hopes. But they can redeem it. Dear leaders, you now sit on the steering wheel of this great nation. You could either accelerate it down this road of corruption and unchecked greed or you could help turn around the course of this nation and steer it into a brighter future. Sadly the efforts to a turn around are very minimal if indeed there are some. One thing you should know is that whatever you decide to do, you are writing History. What kind of legacy do you want to leave behind? Always remember that you will not remain there forever. Your time in that office is measured by the almighty. What is expected of you is for you to uphold the solemn vows you committed yourself when you took up that office. And for you to even go the extra mile in making this nation great. Noteworthy to remember is that how you handle your tenure in office will have great reverberations in the future. Whether good or bad, your deeds will echo so loudly in the coming years. So what kind of echoes do you want to hear when you are retired? So here is to you. A nation of immense greatness, placed in your hands for stewardship. Will you rise to the leadership challenge? History is watching quietly.
